North Fringe Sewer Project - Northern Interceptor Sewer

The North Fringe Sewer Project provides for the interception of flows in existing sewers draining to the North Dublin drainage system, which was built in the late 1950's and has become increasing overloaded restricting new development in the area.

The project involved the construction of a network of trunk sewers and two main pumping stations designed to provide drainage for new development in the North Dublin and South Fingal areas. A network of approximately twenty-six kilometres of new sewers extends from Finglas Village to Sutton.

The sewers were constructed using both open cut and tunnelling methods.
