Generic Repeat Design (GRD) Schools
The scope of the project includes the development of a generic primary school design, which will be capable of being constructed in 8, 12 and 16 classroom formats. PH McCarthy are the structural engineers on the project.
The key project objectives are: minimisation of design input and design cost for future repeat projects; achievement of better value for money for the Client for repeat projects; reduction in procurement time for future projects; and transparent design process with documentary record of all major design decisions.
An example of the GRD is Archbishop Ryan National School, Lucan comprising of a two storey sixteen classroom school with additional special needs accommodation. The structural scheme comprises loadbearing masonry with a precast prestressed concrete hollowcore first floor structure. The roof comprises aluminium standing seam cladding supported on a deep perforated metal deck structure.
