Operating Theatres Development & Upgrading Works, Our Lady's Hospital For Sick Children, Crumlin

Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin previously had five operating theatres, three of which date back to when the hospital first opened in 1957. In 1957 the caseload was 2,000 per annum; by 1996 this had increased to 8,100 per annum. In order to meet demand and ensure the continuing development of the hospital as a major paediatric centre it was decided that seven operating theatres, a day surgical unit and a sterile supplies department would be build. PH McCarthy was responsible for the civil and structural design of the project.

HEPA filtration was incorporated into the seven new operating theatres to protect immune-compromised patients during the main contract work.
